So part of the family visit included a cake tasting at a local bakery called InPockets. This place is very well known for it's cake as well as it's very unique hot sandwiches. To be honest, Rich and I felt a little disenchanted with this place as we had tried three times to eat their sandwiches - either it was unexpectedly closed or they had run out of sandwich food. What?? So when I heard that the hotel we're getting married at used this bakery, I was a little less than chipper but having heard rave reviews about it's cakes, I decided to give it a shot.
Let me tell you, eating cake 10am on a Friday..... oh wait, I already told you, huh? Seriously - SO good! :) We each got ourselves some coffee to pair with the cake so let's just say that we were adequately prepared. Now what I wasn't prepared for were three albums full of cake pictures we had to pore through before the cake sampling. Unfortunately I really had no idea what I wanted the cake to look like and my sweet Rich had affectionately told me that morning before he left for work "I don't care". All I knew was that I wanted a simple cake yet fruity and YUMMY!
Scanning the pictures it was pretty easy to pick out the cakes we didn't like. Sometimes that's easier than knowing what you do want! Thankfully though as we made our way through all of the albums, it became clearer what my eyes ended up looking for. And here ladies and gentlemen is the picture of the cake we're going to have.
It's pretty unique but also kinda traditional too I think. We'll be using an apple green satin ribbon instead of pink and the we'll include ribbon on the bottom layer. There won't be piping on the bottom layer but there will be some piping in "squiggly" fashion on the top layer. Whatchya think? And yes, you can be honest because in the end I'm still in love with this cake!
After choosing the design, we next chose the type of cake. Yup, cake tasting here we come. :)
There were several types including a champagne cake, chocolate cake, a fruity cake and a carrot cake. And of course each one had different fillings such as chocolate ganache, raspberry, passion fruit and cream cheese. I thought I knew what I wanted which was a white cake with a light and fruity filling. But after being forced by the baker lady to try the carrot cake, I couldn't stop eating it. That's right, I chose the carrot cake. Now before you all roll your eyes and tell me that I should have chosen the chocolate ganache, this carrot cake was out of this world! And I'm not a huge carrot cake fan. But it was so delicious. Nice and light with a nice balance of carrot and baking spices. Yummy!!
So there it is....we now have chosen the cake and I'm very happy! It was a pretty good process - went by fairly fast and of course how can you really complain when you're being fed free cake? At 10am. On a Friday. :) It was bliss.
Here is a picture of Helen and my sister Aarti.

Looks beautiful, and I am sure it will taste the same way!
I like how there's squares, but also round cakes going on. How fun! Ribbon on cake is awesome, it gives it a classy feel without the 90s creeping in there. And carrot cake??? I'm sure it must've been amazing!
The cake is beautiful -- love it! And they look delish too. I love cake with a filling :)
I can't wait to see it up close - it looks lovely!!
The cake looks really nice. I like carrot cake and I think everyone will make comments like, "I've never had carrot cake at a wedding." My guess is that it will be a huge success.
