This morning Rich and I ventured over to Schnepff Farms in Queen Creek, AZ. For a very cheap $2 you can pick as many peaches you want! Well let me correct myself..the admission was $2 and the peaches themselves were $1.75 a pound which is not super cheap but honestly it was worth it! These peaches are incredibly juicy and sweet. And by juicy I mean peach-juice-dripping-down-your-face-and-your-arms-juicy! This was the first time I have ever been fruit picking so I was taking pictures like crazy and I wanted to stay in the orchard for much longer than we really needed to. Rich was uber patient as always. :)
We took a hayride to get to the orchard. Cute, huh? The hay was a bit scratchy on the bare thigh but it's part of the 'experience'. :)
I highly recommend the peach picking extravaganza at Schnepff Farms if you live here. Although we went on a Sunday, Schnepff did a great job making sure that there were small wait lines which was good because it hit 104 degrees today! They provided water stations - also important for May in AZ. Parking was easy too. I mean I was really impressed with how smooth the process was considering how many people showed up to the farm. This event was also a hit with the families too. It was incredibly cute to hear all of the kids shout with joy after picking a peach!
Down side? Well, because there's only two of us, we could only pick so many peaches so the experience was over really fast. I kinda wanted it to last at least an hour but seriously, once we got to the orchard we were probably done in about 20 minutes. 20 minutes! Other downer was the heat but whatever...it's AZ. It's hot. You gotta kinda just accept it.
Advice? We tried to be green and bring our own reusable bags however our peaches got quite bruised by the time we got home. Schnepff provides cardboard boxes which made me gasp in horror but I know if we had used them it would have prevented our peaches from bruising. So either suck it up and use the cardboard box they provide or bring one of your own. Another piece of advice? Bring some wet wipes if you plan to bite in to a peach while at the orchard! Otherwise be prepared for some sticky hands until you can find a water station. And lastly bring a hat, wear your highest SPF and bring plenty of your own water for the car ride home!

104 degrees!!!! It was 50 as I was driving to work this morning.
We probably have to wait a month or so to get local peaches here in maryland - but enjoyed hearing about your excursion. Love the black and white pictures - very cute :)
How much fun is that! We have to wait until fall up here, when we hit up the apple and berry farms, but peaches sound much better! Sounds like a great time!
Glad you had such a wonderful time.
It's funny that you were sad it was over so fast. Once you have kids and go fruit picking with them you will have a great time for the first 20 minutes and then after tears, climbing, falls, fights, and maybe the shrieks accompanying a bee sting, you'll be counting down the minutes until you get them home! But it will still be great!
Have a wonderful week,
Jan
Hi Pink Dogwood - I've been lurking around your blog for about a month or two and finally said hello yesterday. Thank you for coming to my blog! I would of course love to have 50 degree weather here. We won't get that low again until December, if we're lucky. Our lows are generally in the 60's! That's AZ for ya!
Lauren - thanks! still can't get over how sweet those peaches are.
Jan - you know, you're right! grass is always greener on the other side, huh? have a great week yourself.
Ohhhh peaches...living in an Indian village removes me from their vicinity....I can smell them now, thanks to your post :)
Hi Braja! Hope that you're healing well! I miss the sweet sweet papayas that I have only found in India. And the ripe mangoes and chickoos. Also - apple custards! There are many delicious fruits in India that I miss. :)
