swoosh, swoosh, swoosh
I had such a great swimming experience last night I just had to share! I think that most of you know that I began swimming a while back. And by swimming I mean doing laps, not lolly-gaggying (is that a word?) around in the pool. At Rich's advice that it is the best way to work out, I gave it a shot and instantly agreed that it is a great full body work out. It's sooooo much better than running on a treadmill and watching the minutes go by. I can't seem to not focus on the timer so swimming is great! All I have to do is keep focused on reaching my swimming goal for the evening. No timer to keep watch of.
And you know it's funny because I never was a swimmer. I mean I remember feeling so not confident in the pool. I even remember one time in my youth getting out of swim class by saying I had sprained by arm playing tennis. Tennis?? I don't even play tennis! Worst excuse ever! ps - Mum this is for you - I ended up telling the truth to the swim teacher. She knew me to too well to let me get away with it. Plus, to this day I'm an awful liar. So anyway, I was awful at swimming. I was not very good at doing laps, was afraid of swallowing water and altogether didn't have much stamina to even enjoy swimming.
Cut to last night...it was terrific! What an experience! I can't quite describe it but I felt so one with the water. I felt like the water was my friend egging me on, carrying me forward. It's so hard to put in to words and if you think I'm totally nutty, it's ok. I understand. :) Last night I swam in a way that I haven't swam before. I was able to swim using less breath and I swam faster...almost felt like I was gliding through the water. Craziest feeling! And in racing with Rich I could pretty much keep up with him, reaching the wall only a slight second behind him. Now, I couldn't beat Rich's 62 lap record (!!) but I did up my best by 10 laps. That's huge for me! And I'm not too far behind his personal best....whoop, whoop!
I'm feeling very grateful for having found a new love of the water. Well...that might be pushing it too far. I still don't love the water but let's just say that I have a new appreciation for the art of swimming. It totally makes me want to get back in there!
And before I sign off, I was looking for some cute images to upload with this post and came across these two images and instantly knew I had a winner. Check out these swimming caps!! Fabulous, aren't they??

Those are some funky looking hats that I'll leave you with tonight! Off to tap dancing...
Love,
Kavita
ps - apologies for the abrupt ending...gotta jet!

I also remember all those tummy aches you had on swimming days!! This Mum sent you off off with a teaspoon of Gripe Water!! Or was it the yummy Gripe Water you wanted???
:))
BTW How are the migraines??
I think we should make you one of those swim caps - you would look adorable wearing one!
I'm so glad that you are finding your fins! I want to know how your migraines are too...
i love those swimming caps! why don't we wear those kinds of things anymore?!
you are totally inspiring me to get swimming -- i would love to get better at it, get stronger. as soon as i have a little extra money, i'm going to get a swimsuit, goggles and swim cap (do you swim with your contacts in?)
well done!
-x-
That's great! you are getting better I'm sure.
I felt like you, unsure in the water and then i signed up for a Master's swim class. It was not love at first site, i really wanted to quit, but after awhile it began to get easier and pretty soon i was looking forward to it!
You are right, it's a great workout.☺
Mum, I don't know why I loved gripe water so much but I did! Man did I have a lot of tummy aches...heeehee!!
Mum/Jan - migraines are gone. I realized that my sinuses were blocked so I used a neti pot as well as a decongestant and it did the trick! It's the first time I've ever had sinus issues (and hpefully the last!).
Lizzie, I'm contemplating making one...but then again...Rich probably wouldn't swim with me if I wore that!
Sis, yup I wear my contacts but with goggles. It's great to actually be able to see in the water!
LoriAnn, I know what you mean by not fun!! But you're right, it does get easier. :)
