As I write this, we are getting our living area painted! Fabulous! Mike the painter, his Dad and his son all showed up bright and early at 7am and are currently prepping the area to get started. I love that there are three generations of his family here in our living room. I feel quite honored.
We would have painted on our own however we have very tall ceilings and neither Rich or I are comfortable up on the ladder that high. In fact we pretty much pee our pants every time we have to change a light bulb or swop out smoke detector battiers. Sooooooo, hiring somebody was really the only choice we had. We chose a very light subtle green for the living are. The kitchen is getting painted a beige-cream as we don't get too much sunlight in there. I am so thrilled to see how this all turns out! I'm a little scared that we won't like the green. Uh-oh! If so, I am going to have to convince myself to like it as we won't be changing it for a long time to come!
This meant that last night we spent quite a bit of time moving everything out of our living area and kitchen. It brought up so much dust that Rich could feel it in his lungs. Being in the desert, the dust flow is very high and it's amazing how fast it collects. After we cleaned up last night, we felt that we deserved a good movie so we picked out Blindside. If you haven't seen it...SEE it. :) Yes, I just threw in some upper case. I'm not yelling at you...just HIGHLY suggesting it. :)
I sat on the end of the sofa for the first hour and once I got tired from being all tensed up, I sat back in to the sofa. You know it's funny how I work in the field of public mental health and meet so many children that have really had a rough life. I am able to separate from the situation, stay focused on my role and not lose it every night I come home from work. However watching that movie...holy crap. It was hard. It made me want to simply bawl. It made me want to save every kid. Bring them home. Of course that's not necessarily the answer but still... It's incredibly hard to see a child's pain. Sigh.
I probably sound like Debbie Downer right now, huh? Well, here is Positive Polly...Sandra Bullock so very deserved her Academy Award. She played a fabulous role and touched my heart with her performance. She will honestly rock your socks. And Quinton Aaron who plays the main character of Michael Oher did a pretty stellar job as well. I thought that he played quite an interesting role. I thoroughly enjoyed the story line and the passion that this movie exuded. And if you choose to watch it, be prepared for some tears and the infamous ball in your throat. ps - i was going to say 'frog' in your throat. :)
Wow, I think I'm rambling over here. Did I mention that Rich and I are holed up in the bedroom while the painters work away? Rich is doing our taxes and I'm blogging. Guess who got the better end of the deal on that one? :)
Happy weekend everybody! I will post before and after pictures once everything gets settled in here.

Amazing movie! Michael and the family are both very inspiring. Can't wait to see the photos of the living space!
Kuv, I hope the painters do a great job. The colour will great, it is green after all!!
It is such a clean feeling after the painters are finished, the furniture is put back and everything is dusted and gleaming.
Then you can relax with a lit scented candle,a glass of wine, dim lights etc. etc. Bliss!!
that sounds really exciting, new paint can totally change a place. i'm sure your going to love the color. well, i hope you are.
i haven't seen the movie, thank you for the review. i'll add it to our netflix queue.
I despise getting ready for painting...but am oh so happy once I see the end result. I love new paint! I am hoping to see The Blindside asap.
Yes yes...before and after pics please ! :)
Check out pictures, just uploaded!
Blindside is on my list! I can't wait to see it. We were supposed to see it on an airplane, but the sound didn't work in our half of the plane. I'm glad I didn't watch it there. I'd rather see it on a bigger screen, with better volume and no one bumping me or walking in front of the screen!

And nobody ramming your elbow with the beverage cart? I can relate. :) Hope you enjoy the movie!
