Mini stories

Time for a couple stories that on their own wouldn't be enough for a full blog post so I've smushed them together in to one post full of mini stories.

The yard
So I've been waiting for the termite guy to come do his business on our house before getting the backyard cleaned up after our hot summer.  Most of us Phoenicians let our gardens go to shit over the summer as everything pretty much dies (especially folks like me who stubbornly desire only annuals) and then we wait till about September/October when it's bearable to be outside to throw out the dead plants and start planting the new ones.  And did you catch the termite reference?  Yuppers, our house got caught with the termite fever.  Those pesky guys are really gross.  After getting a couple folks to come out and give us an estimate, we chose a local company.  The guy was super nice and got the job done yesterday.  Now we have to keep watch for 4-6 weeks to see if we killed the colony.  I sound so vicious, don't I?

And today I finally spent some time cleaning up the yard.  I swept up the leaves, threw out a couple dead plants, stacked up the pots and re-arranged the patio furniture and grill.  I need to get the light and fan working out there again and grab some annuals to pot.  I'm quite pleased with the progress so far.  This year the ficus bush that I have so hated and wished to take out is starting to mysteriously die.  I have no idea why but I am not complaining.  I have always hated that thing.  Since it's impending death march began, I have been devising a plan to take out the sucker so I'm hoping the roots aren't too fierce and ugly otherwise I'll really have to put some muscle in to it.  In it's place I am contemplating a veggie patch.  What do you think?  I'm still on the fence with it only because it's a lot of work to keep up and I know nothing about it.  Thankfully one of my best friends - Mo - is a season veggie patcher :) and I can lean on Mo for advice to get me through the season.  But I can barely find time to go regularly to the gym, let alone keep up a vegetable patch.  Sigh, decisions...decisions...  I would also have to build in a fence to keep our scavengers out - Taz and Shila - otherwise they would definitely take on the job of harvesting themselves if you catch my drift.  Will keep you posted!

Neti pot and ear pain
Are any of you guys neti pot users?  I learned about this practice through Leaner's blog and have kept this guy near-by for a while.  Recently though my ears have been causing me grief after I use it.  Any ideas or thoughts about this?  My ears have been bugging me recently so I might make a trip to an ENT and see if they can figure out my vertigo issues as well.  I swear that my ears are acting all cooky.  Whenever I yawn or simulate a yawn, I can ear something opening and closing.  Can anybody relate?  I swear I am a walking medical nightmare!  There are things that I can't even post on here that would make your eyebrows raise.

Family Name Plate
Although I have been commissioned by a friend to paint them a piece of art, my fingers are itching to put one of these guys together for our house.

This one is made by Etsy seller Rumpel Street Boutique and I am loving the idea.  It's so neat to have a piece of art that essentially celebrates the day that you started your family.  I don't know how to make one and I'm sure that it won't look as cool as the one pictured above but I really want to try.  Perhaps I can get it done by the time our anniversary rolls around which is in less than a month.

Segway to our Anniversary!
I can't believe that we're already coming up on a year...can you believe it?  We are celebrating on the 13th since it's a Saturday and I've been coming up with ideas of what to do.  I would love to make our celebration something special.  And for that reason, I am kicking myself for not purchasing a recent groupon for a hot air balloon flight complete with breakfast and champagne that was a screaming deal.  Oh well.  I'm thinking about getting a dinner reservation at Quiessence Restaurant which is an earthy yet swanky little fancy restaurant in Phoenix.  They have a private outdoor dining area for one table that is in front of a fire place.  Here is a pic from Quiessence's website..

Romantic, huh?  They'll set a table up complete with linens (now that's a real restaurant!).  We love food so I might even organize a breakfast and perhaps a morning visit to the Farmer's Market.  Any other ideas?  Rich suggested a hike but I don't think he realizes that that involves exercise.

Play by Givenchy
I stumbled upon Givenchy's new fragrance and I'm in love.  I have a hard time with perfume as most perfumes feel way too strong for my liking.  I only have Amazing Grace by Philosophy and a funnily enough Can Can by Paris Hilton.  I have a Paris Hilton perfume.  Did I just say that out loud?  Ooops.  But anyway, those two are the only perfumes that I can rock and feel comfortable wearing until now...I am loving this new fragrance called Play.

Oh and yes Mr. Timberlake may have be the reason why I stopped to give the tester a go.  :)  Teehee!

And with that, I must leave you all.  My clothes are perpetually finding their closet in the dryer and my sweet husband is perpetually begging me to find them a new home - like their real closet!  Gotta jet and empty out the dryer!  Peace and have a great week peeps!

A veggie garden is work to start with but not too bad once prepared, honest! I would love to help as much as possible though am not having much luck myself these days. :(

I am sure your ear issues are to do with your TMJ but you should probably get them checked anyway.

Lovely venue for your anniversary dinner. Can't believe it's almost a year. I remember chatting about your plans after you got engaged! Amazing. xx

Oh please go to Quiessence Restaurant! Do the 4 course meal. I want to hear about it! My good friend did that right before her baby was born and said it was so amazing. I really want to go for my anniversary (in Feb).

Love the mini stories. Cute idea. And thank you for getting back to blogging. I missed you.
