Totally Awkward Tuesdays

Ok, so I know that technically I'm a day late but I reckon that that's ok. I was going to post yesterday evening but I got violently ill and all my plans got thrown out the proverbial window. And yes thank you, I am feeling much better today!

What might you ask is Totally Awkward Tuesdays? It's a tradition started by a certain blogger by the name of Tova Darling whose blog I try to catch now and then. It's rather self-explanatory but if you're in a midst of haze let me explain.

An awkward story is posted on Tuesday.
Ta-daa!

Now although I have many awkward stories I'm not sure that all are appropriate for posting to the public. So let me start with this bright shining example of my awkwardness.

Take your mind back to 2003. Yes, 2003 my bloggies. It's that good I've remembered it for that long. I was at my desk at work on an important phone call with a Very Important Person. We were discussing a child's care and how there was simply so much to coordinate in order to move forward. Those who know me well know that I am exceptionally challenged with remembering common phrases - I botch them up all the time although I truely do mean well. The concoctions that come out of my mouth simply amaze me (and of course those around me too).

So back to the story...after discussing a potential plan with said Very Important Person on the important phone call, I began to summarize and end the conversation. With much confidence and finality I said to him..."you know I think we can do this. We just really need to make sure that we have our balls in a row and we'll be off to a great start"...

(silence)
What?
What did I just say??
"Balls in a row"?
What the crap is that?

Very Important Person was quiet for an excruciatingly long 5 seconds and so was I as I tried to figure out what the hell I just said and why it didn't sound right. As time passed (5 seconds felt like forever!) I heard the sound of my office-mate giggling uncontrollably which of course put me over the edge. Thankfully Very Important Person then too began laughing. It was a total Hannah Barabara moment as we all had a good chuckle about it. Phew! Never again will I combine these two phrases - "ducks in a row" and "balls in the air". Not good. I had unknowingly brought up a vision of balls (of the male variety) lined up in a row.

Well of course a day later I got an email from our terribly good looking CEO letting me know that he heard about my wonderful ability with phrases and I got ribbed from then onwards. I guess Very Important Person thought it was so funny that he had to share. With my CEO. URGH.

And there you go. That's my contribution to Totally Awkward Tuesdays (on a Wednesday).

That's hilarious. I'm really bad about that as well. I feel comfortable using those sayings in everyday conversation, but the minute I write them in an email or on a blog I completely doubt myself.

Yes very awkward indeed but it made for a great story! Who knew I would be blogging about it 5 years later.
