Farmer's Market

Good Evening,

Post #2 for today. Exciting, huh? Tittilating, huh? Have you ever used the word 'tittilating' in regular speech? I haven't but I might tomorrow. Just because.

So as I mentionned I had a weekend of complete freedom - yey for me! Although I love my Rich oh so dearly, I still crave my own 'me time'. I lived by myself for 5 years before moving in with my love and as much I love being with Rich, I also love being on my own.

My weekend was filled with window shopping, gardening, lots of cleaning, watching a movie and some tv and Saturday morning I ventured to one of my favorite places – the Farmer’s Market in downtown Phx. I couldn’t believe how busy it was! They even had a couple tour buses stopped outside – can you believe that? Tour buses stopping at a Farmer’s Market? J

On Saturday I was determined to leave with freshly made bread, yummy organic veggies and farm fresh eggs. Well I am happy to say that I left with everything but the latter. I tell you…those farm fresh eggs get bought out SO fast! Every time I have been to the farmer’s market, I have always missed out on the eggs. Sigh. One farmer did try and get me to purchase goose eggs but at $2 a pop, I wasn’t having it although I must say that I was very intrigued. Anybody tried goose eggs before? What’s yer verdict?

I was ecstatic to have purchased fresh tomatoes, brussell sprouts (huge ones!), swiss chard, lettuce and banana squash. I have no idea what to do with the squash or the swiss chard but I plan to find a couple recipes to try out this week. I used up the brussell sprouts tonight – yum!! – more on that later.

I also scored some AWESOME fresh bread. I unfortunately ate half the loaf before Rich got home on Sunday night. I know…I’m bad. It was just TOO good! It was honey wheatberry. Listen I don’t even know what wheatberry is but I don’t care. It was yummy delicious.

Lastly, I stumbled upon a lady selling organic cleaning products. The household cleaner smells of peppermint and I fell in love with how clean it smelt. Also intrigued by the fact that it’s natural. But riddle me this….is hydrogen peroxide natural? I looked at the bottle today and it contains hydrogen peroxide. What ye think? I’m a little perplexed. I love the stuff but I’m wondering if I got a bit scammed.

Anyway as I ponder the complexities of hydrogen peroxide, here are some pictures from the day!

I grabbed a bunch of these. Look how red they look!

These colors are intense, no? How beautiful the food that we eat is.

Ok, I don't really like radish but I couldn't resisit taking this picture.

This is what part of the Farmer's Market looks like. Check out people wearing boots in AZ - wha??? People - we're in AZ. It's not that cold!

This is one of my favorite stalls at the Farmer's Market. This lady makes aprons that are so adorable! I love the print on this one. Unfortunately they are pretty pricey so I usually stare, touch and...wish. :)

Peach pie or candle? Ok fine, the wicks kinda give it away.

Pretty, pretty beads!

According to my green cleaning book hydrogen peroxide is an ecceptable green option for cleaning, as is that oxygen bleach powder. Both things surprised me!

Oh I'm jealous. I wish we had a place like that here.

Mo - I was hoping you would check your book and respond for me on the hydrogren peroxide bit. Thank you! I'm still a bit surprised (like you!) but oh well, I guess it's ok to use. Interesting, huh?

Dresden - oh it is so awesome. it's about 25 minutes from my house so not super close but not super far either. Love it. Maybe you can start one in your area?

Andy Pandy - Thank you! Let me know how the recipe goes. You both will love it. :)

I seriously understand how you feel about the freaking hydrogen peroxide. Like when they tell you to use borax in homemade cleaner recipes? By the way, totally jealous that you can go to a freaking awesome farmers market in FEBRUARY!

Lauren - funny you mention that...borax is ALSO in the "organic" cleaner I got. Hmmm...makes you wonder, huh? And yes, the joys of living in Phoenix include our awesome Winter weather. Don't talk to me in the Summer though. Grrrrr.
