Did I mention that we're playing in our community's softball league? We're the Anderson Smashers! We kinda suck but we have a lot of fun together so that's all that matters. :) Last Friday was our first game. I was kinda forced in to playing by my other half who very gently said to me "oh if you don't go, we might not be able to play because we need five females to be able to play the game". Of course he knew how to get me! I reluctantly relented because I didn't want the whole team to have to forfeit a game.
So grumpy as I was about it, I went to softball last Friday and following the game had to eat my words because I LOVED it! I can't catch a ball to save my life but I can hit pretty damn well - long, fast and close to the ground - and I'm a fast runner. Well....except last night. So after the game last week, I knew I had strained some muscles in my upper thighs. I had forgotten to stretch and not being a young bumpkin, I can't run like I used to without stretching! I felt it after my run to first base but it wasn't bad and I made it through the game, running through all the bases in one inning (weeee!). The week that just went by was a tad hard...I felt the strain but every day I felt better and by Thursday I felt good as new.
Yesterday, I made sure to really stretch. 20 minutes of stretching and I felt good to go. I got up to the batter's area (technical term escapes me right now) and was ready to rock and roll. My eye caught two balls (throws from the pitcher that aren't good throws) and then, I went for it. Swung the bat and made a beauty! Long, fast and close to the ground. I booked it. Booked it to first base but about 5-6 steps in I felt the same muscles clench up. Clench up so bad that I could barely run with the lightening speed I usually do. Oh my gosh did it hurt!! I made it to first base without getting caught out (which still amazes me) but my team could tell something was wrong. I asked for a runner because I knew I was done. Gingerly walking back to the dug out, I realized that this time it was so much worse. Thankfully the City of Chandler dude had a full supply of medical needs so I was able to get ice on both groin muscles right away. I couldn't play the rest of the game. Totally sucked. I was incredibly bummed.
Rich was playing so I waited in the dugout till the game ended. We lost (probably because I wasn't out there - hahaha!, no just kidding) which was too bad. 2 losses! Oh well! Walking back to the car was a slow and painful journey. When you pull your groin muscles, it totally effects your walking and mostly, your ability to lift your legs on your own. It's almost like dead weight. So while I could sit my butt in the passenger seat of Rich's car, I literally could not lift my legs from the parking lot ground in to the car. Rich was already buckled in waiting for me to figure it out. Through my hysterical laughing and crying out in pain, I asked him to unbuckle and come around the car to help me get in. I was laughing so hard because I couldn't believe that I just couldn't lift my legs.
So that's pretty much the story. I've been high on advil and freezed out on ice since last night. I feel better this morning but I still can't lift my legs. Makes it really hard to get in the shower, shave your legs, put on panties/pants, etc. Anything pretty much that requires you lifting your leg. Grrr. I almost shed a tear this morning because I absolutely hate not having the freedom to move around as I please but then I realized that it was ridiculous to cry over this because in the grand scheme of things, it's nothing. Thankfully I am out of town next weekend - flying to Chicago for a bridal shower thrown by Rich's side of the family. I'll have 2 weeks for my groin muscles to recover before trying to play again. Fingers crossed, I'll be good to go! Until then, feel free to call me a P.I.T.G. :)

that sounds so painful! but i'm glad you're laughing about it.
:)
get well soon!
-x-
I guess it is funny looking back, but not so much when it actually happens. Fews years ago, I did the whole tai bo (?sp) tape and was kicking and punching with all my might. The following morning I could get out of bed and had to ask my husband to swing my legs around and help me get out of bed.I was a pathetic sight, but it is funny now :)
hope you feel better soon and enjoy the shower.
I too am a PITG sister. Tried to do tortoise pose without properly being taught it and tore my groin muscle on the right. It was NOT FUN!!! I hope you heal quickly and totally. I'm so excited about your upcoming bridal shower too.
Hugs from PDX,
Jan
Ouch! That sounds so painful. I do hope you heal quickly and get back to playing softball very soon :)
That is the worst! But hey, I am super proud of you for doing so well up in the game up to that point - who knew my little penpal was such a bruiser?!
Absurd... your medical book diagram of the groin is absurd. It shows true dedication to your blog and "owning" your groin injury.
